Chapter Initiatives

Chapter Initiatives

Alpha Chapter hosts smaller events to benefit organizations in our community. We have volunteered at local food banks and organized bake sales and clothing drives. One local organization we assist is the Riverside Church, a group that organizes resources for the unhoused in Morningside Heights such as haircuts, clothing, and food. We also raise funds for our mutual aid program.

Building Awareness

  • On October 12th, World Arthritis Day, Alpha Os fundraise and spread awareness for the NYC Arthritis Foundation. As a disease without a cure, arthritis also affects children and young adults.

  • On Junior Arthritis Day, March 18th, our chapter participates in the Fraternity's national "Panda Drive" where we raise funds to gift panda stuffies to children panda affected by arthritis.

Service for Sisters

  • Olivia Erhardt (CC ‘18) was a beloved sister who joined Alpha Chapter in 2015. Olivia was selfless, always volunteering her time for the chapter as well as to help our greater community. After her freshman year, she interned at Cincinnati's Children's Hospital to conduct research.

Tragically, Olivia passed during a Global Brigades trip to Honduras while she was providing medical assistance for people who couldn't afford it otherwise.

Alpha Chapter annually celebrates our sister during February on Olivia's Day. She helped the lives of so many, and we want to make sure her memory lives on. Every year we serve our community just as Olivia did, raising money for organizations including the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

  • Here in Alpha Chapter, we cherish our time with one another. We are devastated when personal financial circumstances cause a member’s time in our chapter to be cut short. The mutual aid is a way for members to anonymously support one another in times of hardship.

Helping our Community

  • Each semester, we collaborate with Panda Express in Morningside Heights (111th & Broadway) to run a fundraising campaign. All sales made with our AOII code go to support our local philanthropy efforts and our mutual aid. Come eat with us!

  • On March 14th (3.14), we celebrate Pi Day by pie-ing our seniors in the face! The format has varied, but it always ends in lots of whip cream and laughs. Proceeds go to a local charity of the senior’s choice.
